Jimmie Espo is the Founder and Owner of The 617 Event Group, a full-service wedding and event entertainment company serving New England and Southwest Florida. With more than 30 years of experience in music and live events, Jimmie is known for his ability to blend high-level DJ performance with thoughtful leadership, seamless coordination, and an unwavering focus on the overall guest experience.

Jimmie Espo’s journey in music began long before weddings, timelines, or formal introductions. It started as a young kid obsessed with sound, rhythm, and how music makes people feel. His parents recognized that early spark and supported it in every way they could — hauling gear, encouraging late nights, and never once treating the dream as unrealistic. That foundation shaped everything that followed.
 
He came up in Boston’s nightclub scene, where reading a room wasn’t optional — it was essential. Those nights taught him how energy builds, when to shift direction, and how one song can change the entire mood of a space. Over time, Jimmie realized those same instincts belonged somewhere bigger than the club. In 1998, he made the transition into weddings and private events, bringing that same musical awareness into a setting where moments matter even more.
 
That shift led to the launch of Move It Music, the original company that eventually evolved into what is now The 617 Event Group. Over the last 30 years, Jimmie has performed at and overseen thousands of events across New England and beyond — not just as a DJ, but as a leader, coordinator, and problem-solver. Today, he still personally performs at almost 100 events each year while guiding a team he trusts deeply to deliver at the highest level.
 
What sets Jimmie’s work apart isn’t a preset playlist or a scripted approach. It’s the ability to listen — to clients, to rooms, to moments — and make decisions in real time. He has always believed a great event doesn’t feel forced or overproduced. It feels natural, effortless, and perfectly timed. That philosophy carries through every aspect of The 617 Event Group’s work, from music and lighting design to production flow and overall event execution.
 
Over the years, Jimmie has had the opportunity to share that perspective beyond the dance floor. He has spoken at WeddingWire’s WORLD Conference multiple times, co-authored books on wedding planning and reception flow, and been featured in publications including Scene Magazine, BostonMan Magazine and Naples City Lifrstyle. While those milestones are meaningful, consistency remains what matters most to him — showing up prepared, calm, and fully invested in every single event.

We had DJ Jimmie Espo for DJ and lighting services for our wedding in Boston. Jimmie and team went above and beyond the entire process. This was more than just a DJ service. Jimmie was a true asset throughout the day, offering to help with whatever we needed, communicating with all other vendors and family members. He frequently checked in with us before the ceremony, through cocktail hour and dinner. If we needed a coffee, he made it happen. If something wasn’t perfect with our set up, he was on it. Then, we got to dancing, Jimmie KILLED IT! We told him we wanted a real party, everyone up, excited and dancing, and he delivered. He gave us the idea to start off with a dance set right after the first dance before dinner and it really set the tone. We gave Jimmie our overall style and taste with some songs that we like, and then let him just do his thing to keep people dancing all night. The dance floor was packed the entire reception, and all the guests were raving about how good the music was. He mixed songs on the fly perfectly, adjusted quickly to the crowd, and played a wide variety of songs that fit ours and our guests tastes. 617 Weddings & Jimmie Espo were seriously amazing to work with. They were so organized and had an online portal for wedding timeline, song requests and planning. On the day of, DJ Jimmie absolutely made the party. It was seriously a party before the salads came out, I've never seen anything like it - he played Sweet Caroline and people were dancing at their chairs it was amazing. He played every request we had and played a good mixture so that all guests at all age ranges were dancing and having a great time. Guests were on the dance floor the entire night, which is exactly what we wanted… it was incredible! People to this day have reached out to me saying it was the best wedding ever and how much they loved our DJ and the music. I could not be happier in choosing 617 for our big day. We used 617 weddings for our wedding DJ and Uplighting. Our DJ was Jimmie Espo and he was incredible. We went to a wedding that he DJed a couple years before ours and knew we had to book him once we got engaged. He’s very easy to communicate with. He really knew how to read the crowd at our wedding. We hired Jimmie from 617 weddings to DJ our wedding. From the first phone call we knew he would make our wedding everything we envisioned it would be. He was quick to respond to every email and text, no matter how big or small the questions or concern was. At our meeting before the wedding he really helped us with our wedding reception timeline and put us at a lot of ease of how everything would flow. He provided music for our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception, all three were different spots of our venue. The reception was amazing! He had everyone dancing the entire night! From our younger guests to our older guests everyone was always on the dance floor. I had multiple people comment to me during the wedding how great the music was, and that it was the danciest wedding ever. 617 weddings use a simple portal to help add songs to playlists, must plays, and timelines of when songs should be played when. They also offered a photo booth with attendant and uplighting which we used. We would definitely recommend 617 weddings!

We are SO thankful we chose Jimmie Espo for our wedding at the Bedford Village Inn. I'm not from MA, but Jimmie & 617 weddings was highly recommended by everyone I spoke to, so I gave them a call. From our first conversation I could tell Jimmie was experienced and could handle all the aspects of the day perfectly. He answered my many texts and calls and we even met him at the 617 Weddings office to review details before the wedding day. The ceremony and reception was amazing and Jimmie handled all the details for that as well. Everyone was singing during dinner and crowded the dance floor before the dance floor was officially open (exactly what we wanted!!). Today, Jimmie splits his time between Boston and Naples, Florida, where he lives with his fiancée Lauren and their dog, Simba. In 2024, he expanded The 617 Event Group’s reach with the launch of 239 DJs, bringing the same standards, team culture, and event-first mindset to Southwest Florida.
 
After three decades in the industry, Jimmie still approaches every event the same way he did at the beginning — grateful for the trust, focused on the details, and driven by the energy of a room coming together at exactly the right moment.

Abdelaziz Idhamou “DJ Aziz”, born in Casablanca Morocco, started as a nightlife / social event DJ before moving to Boston in 2007.  Since then, Aziz has been developing his skills on the turntables and on the mic as a premier American Wedding MC. For the past 13 years, DJ Aziz has worked under some of the most talented and successful Entertainment companies in New England. Now with 617, DJ Aziz is available to take your event to new heights!

While being a polished and professional Boston Wedding DJ, Aziz is also fluent in Arabic with deep ties in the community. He has been instrumental in developing our Arabic wedding division and creating some of the most beautiful events in the city!

Holy sh*t! We cannot express how happy we were with the entire experience working with DJ Aziz Idhamou & 617 Weddings. We had our wedding at Longwood's stunning venue, The Tower in downtown Boston, and having DJ Aziz was icing on the cake. From the first meeting to the last dance, his professionalism, expertise, guidance and attention to detail was beyond perfect. The music selection was spot-on - he blended different genres, built up an energetic atmosphere and kept the dance floor alive the entire night. The 617 DJ Booths are a work of art. The setup, lighting, screen etc. are extremely elegant. The 617 team created custom art from our engagement photos that were projected onto a large screen attached to the DJ booth, which set the perfect backdrop to the dance floor. We brought a DIY photo booth for our guests, and DJ Aziz even pulled the photos from the photo booth's web gallery throughout the night and created a beautiful (and hilarious) slide show that we watched from the dance floor! Beyond the music and dancing, DJ Aziz is a true MC. He spent time getting to know us and our vision, to make it a reality. We had a hard time picking out our intro music, but he found an up-tempo remix to a song we loved, used the energy to work the crowd, and created an unforgettable introduction for us. Throughout the night, despite all of our planning, we hit a few small snags, got a little behind schedule, and had to change the order of a few parts of the reception. But Aziz was on top of everything! He adapted flawlessly, and ensured the party kept flowing smoothly without missing a beat. DJ Aziz from 617 Weddings DJ'ed our June wedding at the Lenox Hotel. Aziz was super responsive leading up to the event and would proactively reach out to check if we needed anything, which we really appreciated. 617 has a portal where you fill out your forms and add in your music lists, but Aziz also recommends sharing links to spotify playlists with him so he knows the exact version of the song you want - highly recommend this! The day of the wedding, Aziz and his team was early to the venue and super easy with their set up. He was a great vendor the day of in that we didn't have to worry about him at all! He came in and did his thing and was a true professional. He kept the dance floor rocking all night long!

My fiance and I had the pleasure of working with Aziz from 617 Weddings as our wedding DJ. From the minute we began working with him, he was extremely professional, responsive and helpful. Then, COVID hit and we made the difficult decision to postpone. Aziz was EXTREMELY flexible and understanding. Once we let him know our new date (and new venue) he remained flexible and attentive to what we wanted. He continued to be so easy to work with and spent time with us on the phone before our wedding day, helping us with the flow of the evening and various songs for each part of the night (Also for the two different cultures that united — Arabic & Italian). Once the night began, he was awesome start to finish. The dance floor was packed all night and he really knew how to work the room. It's impossible to keep track of how many guests said our wedding was a blast, in large part to the great work done by Aziz!
